Job Development Specialist

We are looking for a Job Development Specialist responsible for assisting, guiding and working with the homeless in our Homeless Family Program. The ideal candidate will initiate and maintain ongoing contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives to provide job placement opportunities to our participants. This is a grant funded pilot program and will report to the Program Director. In addition to unemployed participants of your area, there may also be other members who will need your assistance. A big part of the mission for this program will be to figure out how you can best support many different participants and members as they work toward becoming self-reliant.

Essential Job Functions and Duties

  •  Responsible for extensive networking with employers to identify job leads and negotiating job opportunities with employers once an opening has been identified.
  • Works with the Employment Specialist to develop relationships with employment and certification programs
  • Researches internet, agencies, and other resources for job leads
  • Attends employer networking meetings
  • Keeps updated on job fairs and other community resources
  • Understands the Individual Employment Plan for each client
  • Instructs the client about resume and application processes
  • Arranges interviews
  • Counsels on job performance when it is not satisfactory-works with the client to insure satisfactory performance
  • Prepares forms and tracks program/client progress towards goals and outcomes
  • Provides program information to various businesses and updates as needed
  • Invites businesses to advisory and education sessions
  • Keeps up to date on market trends
  • Maintains contact with schools and agencies in collaboration with the Navigation Specialist
  • Attends training sessions for Housing First

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required


Experience and Education: Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required. A combination of experience and skills in the industry or related field is preferred. 
License and Certifications:
Valid Florida Driver’s License with an insurable driving record and current private auto insurance policy.
